Sci Math E Lon

Sarah attended The Lone Star College this morning along
with two friends to take part in the Conroe Schools District
Sci Math E Lon. A mixture of science and maths related
problems which the teams tried to solve.

Here we have the team along
with their science teacher
Mrs McLaughlin at the start of
the competition.

Sarah deep in thought. The aim of
this task was to build a bridge out
of one sheet of paper and see how
many pennies it could hold.

Mrs McLaughlin supervising
the team while they did the
experiment.

Sarah placing the directions in order
so the other team members could
create the correct structure.

Froggie McFroggers

Our little tree frog friend has arrived back
into the garden. He was perched on this
branch for hours - baking in the unseasonably
warm weather we had at the end of last week.

Lake Conroe & Forest Walk

We set off on Sunday morning to get some fresh air and enjoy the local scenery. Lake Conroe is about 30 minutes away in the car and is surrounded by Sam Houston Forest where you can walk the trails for miles.

Before we set off we needed to stock up on water and lunch to keep us going on the walk.

Here we see some of the damage Hurricane Ike caused.
Many trees were down along the walk.

Having a rest on a tree trunk along the way.

After about 1 1/2 hours we reached the Lake.

This end of the Lake still belongs to nature. The lower end is surrounded by large houses and water sport activities and isnt quite so peaceful.

Sarah tested the water and decided it was icy cold. I suppose it is January!!!. The air temperature was 75F a beautiful day.

2nd January - The Mason's Walk

Congratulations to Stuart on becoming Master of Lodge Forbes 67.
Over a hundred Mason's gathered in the Square at Rosehearty for the annual Mason's Walk. It was one of the mildest January days the walk has had for a very long time.

After Stuart's installation as Master he held a party for family and friends and as you can see a good time was held by all.

Christmas and Hogmany

The New Year celebrations were held at Robert &
Linda's with family and friends. It was great to be
back in Rosehearty to celebrate the festive season.

There seems to be a cow girl
in the midst. I wonder where
she came from?

The 'host' at the bar making sure everyone had a full glass.

We were so busy on Christmas morning that we all forgot to take pictures. Here is Sarah surrounded by her presents and below

Thanksgiving in San Francisco

We headed off to San Francisco for Thanksgiving on Wednesday morning and after a 4 hour flight we arrived safe and well. We took the train from the airport into the city and were in our hotel by late afternoon. We went for a walk round the city centre in the evening to get our bearings and find the hire car place for the next mornings drive to The Golden Gate Bridge.
It was a beautiful sunny day - perfect for sightseeing.

MUIR WOODS

After seeing the Bridge we headed off to Muir Woods about
20 miles away. Here there are lovely hiking trails and spectacular Redwood Trees. We walked the Ocean Trail before heading down the Lost Trail!!!!. However, we didn't get lost. Not like J's navigation skills as we attempted to find our way back to the Hotel!!!!

Don't know what happened to this tree. It surely didn't realise
it was supposed to grow up the way.

ALCATRAZ

The next day we took a trip out to Alcatraz. It was a bit dull
and gray but we did the guided tour and took our time walking in the Prison Grounds.

A view of San Francisco from the boat.

CHINA TOWN

The highlight of any holiday is the food. Here S. is
tucking into her bread bowl of clam chowder

We found a lovely park in the middle of San Francisco
and felt right at home with the seagulls.

THE SEA LIONS - very noisy - but fun down at Fishermens Wharf.

The cable car being turned at the bottom of the hill. You really
neeed these to get around the most hilly city we have ever seen.
