Corpus Christi for Spring Break

The USS LEXINGTON, CV-16, is a World War II-vintage aircraft carrier. Commissioned in 1943, she served the United States longer and set more records than any other carrier in the history of naval aviation. The ship was the oldest working carrier in the United States Navy when decommissioned in 1991. Lexington, an Essex-class carrier, was originally named the USS CABOT. During World War II, the final work on it was being completed at Massachusetts' Fore River Shipyard when word was received that the original carrier named USS LEXINGTON, CV-2, had been sunk in the Coral Sea. A campaign was launched to change the new carrier's name to Lexington. The USS LEXINGTON, CV-16, was commissioned on February 17, 1943.

Next stop was the Aquarium.

The dolphins were in a playful mood
and played to the crowd of spectators.

After a busy Sunday we decided to
take a look around the Botanical Gardens
on Monday morning.

Plenty of fruit on this orange tree.

A variety of Cacti.

Does this butterfly look familiar ?

After the gardens we went to Padre Island
and had a picnic on the beach.
Padre Island National Seashore is the longest section of undeveloped barrier island in the world, protecting rare coastal prairie; and the Laguna Madre. The National Seashore and surrounding waters provide important habitat for marine and terrestrial plants and animals, including a number of rare, threatened, and endangered species. Situated along the Central Flyway, Padre Island is a globally important area for over 350 migratory, overwintering, and resident bird species. The National Seashore's remote location also makes it one of the few places where you can observe the night sky with minimal interference from light pollution. The National Seashore is also one of the few places the public can go to see sea turtle hatchlings being released into the wild.

Sci Math E Lon

Sarah attended The Lone Star College this morning along
with two friends to take part in the Conroe Schools District
Sci Math E Lon. A mixture of science and maths related
problems which the teams tried to solve.

Here we have the team along
with their science teacher
Mrs McLaughlin at the start of
the competition.

Sarah deep in thought. The aim of
this task was to build a bridge out
of one sheet of paper and see how
many pennies it could hold.

Mrs McLaughlin supervising
the team while they did the
experiment.

Sarah placing the directions in order
so the other team members could
create the correct structure.

Froggie McFroggers

Our little tree frog friend has arrived back
into the garden. He was perched on this
branch for hours - baking in the unseasonably
warm weather we had at the end of last week.

Lake Conroe & Forest Walk

We set off on Sunday morning to get some fresh air and enjoy the local scenery. Lake Conroe is about 30 minutes away in the car and is surrounded by Sam Houston Forest where you can walk the trails for miles.

Before we set off we needed to stock up on water and lunch to keep us going on the walk.

Here we see some of the damage Hurricane Ike caused.
Many trees were down along the walk.

Having a rest on a tree trunk along the way.

After about 1 1/2 hours we reached the Lake.

This end of the Lake still belongs to nature. The lower end is surrounded by large houses and water sport activities and isnt quite so peaceful.

Sarah tested the water and decided it was icy cold. I suppose it is January!!!. The air temperature was 75F a beautiful day.

2nd January - The Mason's Walk

Congratulations to Stuart on becoming Master of Lodge Forbes 67.
Over a hundred Mason's gathered in the Square at Rosehearty for the annual Mason's Walk. It was one of the mildest January days the walk has had for a very long time.

After Stuart's installation as Master he held a party for family and friends and as you can see a good time was held by all.

Christmas and Hogmany

The New Year celebrations were held at Robert &
Linda's with family and friends. It was great to be
back in Rosehearty to celebrate the festive season.

There seems to be a cow girl
in the midst. I wonder where
she came from?

The 'host' at the bar making sure everyone had a full glass.

We were so busy on Christmas morning that we all forgot to take pictures. Here is Sarah surrounded by her presents and below
