Sam Houston Musuem & Statue

We decided to see a little bit of history on saturday and visit the Sam Houston Musuem and Statue. As you can see everything is bigger and better in Texas!!!. The 3 little people at the bottom are Gordon, Rose & Sarah.

Sarah had visited the Museum with the school so she was our own special tour guide. Sarah is standing in front of the kitchen which we learned from her was separate from the main house in case of fire.
Up close and personal with Sam.

Sam Houston was a Mason. Here we see a plaque the local Masonic Lodge erected in his memory.

This is a picture of Houston Castle near Glasgow which the Houston family built. Never heard of it before have you ?

Sam Houston Museum in Huntsville, just about an hour away from The Woodlands.

It was as cold as it looks !!!

Red Cardinal

Finally had the camera at the right place at the right time to capture one of the native birds. The Red Cardinal is as common as the sparrow and you can see them all over the garden in the Spring.

Lemon Tree

Sarah is growing her own Lemon Tree as are the children from Rosehearty School. We are having a competition to see who's tree grows the most fruit. I am keeping far away as I am not very good with 'green things'. Will keep you posted on its progress.

Avon Pink Walk for Breast Cancer

Saturday 8th March was the day of the 'Pink Walk' for Cancer. This was organised by the school and Sarah and I took part. It was dry and sunny but quite cold - 48 Farenheit !!!!. We had a nice time and met some really nice folks on the walk.

Our Winter Garden

Nothing much been happening over the past few weeks. We have just had the garden cleared of all the overgrowth and we can now see the fence again. We have had a lot of squirrels recently if you enlarge the last picture you will see the one on the fence. Brogan just loves to chase them!!!!
